February 26, 2012. Staples sold me a laptop and told me it was new.

The box had already been opened but, I was told someone just wanted to look at the machine. I get the laptop home, and there are already two personal accounts on the machine from other people. The sales person (kid really a senior in high school) was more concerned with selling me the protection on the machine then making sure the laptop was ready to be sold.

I would not mind buying a refurbished machine if that is what I knew I was getting and agreed to it but, he told me the machine was new and never been used. I think this is illegal, and Staples could get in hot water with the State if complaints start getting filed.

Sold me a used hard drive and hid the "resealed and verified" sticker... Didn't notice it was heavily damaged and didn't work at all until I got home. I am filing a report against the store manager that signed for the product, but might have to go a bit further after seeing all these reviews on the internet.

Yes Staples is the worst ever. They sold me a computer that had alreday been used.

How do I know this? The warranty pop up said it had been activated 7 months before I purchased the machine. After we had it about 2 months, something went wrong with it. When I called the store, they only wanted to know if I had purchased the extended warranty and then then told me the diagnostic will cost 50.00.Staples told me it would have to be sent to the mfgr.

After supposedly getting it fixed, it went again and I dealt with HP not Staples who were able to fix the problem, but not before I sent them the bill of sale because their info indicated that this machine had in fact been purchased by someone else 7 months before I received it. I complained to the company, who refunded me 70.00.

BIg deal for all the time and inconvenience. NEVER< EVER buy from them again, they are dishonest

well John, then that must be Staples in Canada. because Staples in America makes sure returned computers are in working condition.

they resell them as opened box computers.

they also get them at a discount IF they want to purchase that computer. if they do, they still have the 14 day return policy, the 1 year limited warranty and any extended warranties if they were purchased.

I got the same concern as Staples always tried to sell opened units and returned units to customer as brand new. Even worse, they pre-set up the opened units and returned units then forced customers to pay extra fee other than brand new units.

Urmom, it does not happen all the time. Anonymous, somebody made a mistake.

Staples does resell open-boxed returned HP laptops once restored if not defective. You are still within your 14 days if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return the laptop or exchange the laptop, ask to speak to a manager.

The associate should have booted the machine if the box was opened. That is not Staples policy.

The only returns we are authorized to sell would be HP laptops and with those we are supposed to completely clear off the hard drive and reinstall OS from recovery partition, sounds like that store just doesn't know how to follow policy.

The associate should have checked it out before letting you take it home, especially if the box looked opened. Obviously it was a returned item.

If it was an HP is should have been restored to its original factory state and sold as an open box.

Any other brand should not be re-sold once used as per Staples policy. I hope it was just a dumb associate and not something his management authorized.

This happens all the time. Take it back for a refund then buy a laptop from newegg.com Easy fix.
